The 5th Month

Cale is 5 months old. He is growing so fast! I know I say that every month, but seriously I wish I could make these last couple months last a couple years. Cale has started rolling all over the place. No more putting him on the bed (even the middle of it) for even a second without keeping my eyes right on him. He continues to develop a personality all his own. It is a major mood booster to make a funny face or sound in his direction because you are guaranteed a laugh. I was in the middle of taking off his shirt after a little spit up. This one is a little tight on his head. We couldn't resist the photo op.

Still a really really big boy!

At Cale's 4 month visit he weighed 18.2lbs and was 26.5 inches long, which still puts him in the 90th percentile. He gained a whole 3 pounds since his last visit. Brian and I were both shocked. We thought for sure he wasn't going to be more that 17 and a half. In hindsight we shouldn't of been too shocked...that boy is heavy!

I have been playing soccer on Sundays. It is pretty much my only exercise for the week :(. Cale and Brian come to the games to cheer me on. Cale was ready to play just in case we didn't have enough players.

My little Bear

Cool shades huh. They look fake, but they really are his sunglasses.

Cale is still discovering everything through his mouth. I think he was jealous that we were eating so he thought he'd see how the tray tasted. We can always use this picture if he ever decides to try out for the band Kiss.

And back by popular demand...a video entitled "Cale Laughs-A-Lot"

First Thanksgiving

Cale's first Thanksgiving was spent with Brian's side of the fam. He had a great time with grandma and grandpa Keehn. Debbie got him a bib to commemorate the occasion. Cale of course enjoyed having something to chew on. He got to "eat" turkey at 4 and 1/2 months!

What could be better than getting to play with one great grandma at Thanksgiving... getting to play with TWO great grandmas! Cale is almost too big for Grammee. He started his usual excited jump while sitting on her. 18lbs coming down hard on your legs can be a bit much.

Allison was able to join us. She is over half way into her pregnancy. Cale likes talking to the little boy in her belly. He is letting him know it is not too bad out here.

After the Keehn's we headed over to Cale's Vovo's. Cale loves getting to spend time with David and Clauce. He hung out with them most of the the night while Brian and I played games with the rest of the family. Brian won Bonanza for the first time! I'm pretty sure Belen let him win since she killed us in Scrabble a few night earlier.

Outside at Brian's mom's house. The weather was perfect.

Dedication

On November 9th Cale had his baby dedication at church. Brian and I also publicly dedicated ourselves to raise him in the ways of the Lord. We would love and appreciate your prayers for us on this journey especially for Cale's salvation.Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Deuteronomy 6:4-7 "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. And you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

Solid Foods!

Cale LOVES watching Brian and I eat. From the plate to our mouth he has been intently observing our food for weeks wondering what it is that we are doing. I'm assume he felt he was missing out because everything he can get his hands on goes straight to his mouth. Even more recently he started grabbing at our plates as we ate (he was successful a few times making a huge mess)...so we decided it was time to give rice cereal a try. As you can see, he was more than excited.

I made sure the cereal was not very thick so we could ease into it. When I got the spoon into his mouth he was a little confused and tried to suck on it.

After a few bites he decided he wanted to help me put the spoon in his mouth which actually wasn't much help at all.
He did really well. A lot more of the food ended up in this mouth than on his clothes, which was a big accomplishment for the first time. His bowl was empty before he seemed to get board or be full, but we left it at that.

The 4th Month

Can I just say that parenthood is the most amazing and rewarding time I have had my whole life. Cale is so much fun right now that I almost wish he would stay this age forever! He likes to play, talk, and laugh a lot, which makes me laugh a lot too. This month has flown by. Cale got his first cold. It was a day I hoped would never come, at least not this soon. We had a couple weeks of buggies, coughing, and lack of sleep. My poor little pumpkin even had milk coming out of his nose every time he ate for a few days due to the congestion. Brian said putting a picture of Cale with his buggers was not appropriate so you can enjoy some photos of his presick times.

Cale enjoys grasping toys and putting them in his mouth. His hands are a little less red now that they get a break from always being the target of his saliva.

Cale started to turn over from his stomach to his back just before he turned 3 months old. He pushes himself up really high, leans his head to the side, and the rest of him follows right over. The bottom picture is right after he rolled. he just looks at me like I am crazy because I get so excited and start clapping. He will do it 3 or four times a day a few days straight and then he will go a week or so without turning over at all. I'm not really sure how that works.

And I finally got the roll over on video...

This is Cale's saucer. He absolutely loves standing up so I put him in it a little early. He doesn't really play with the toys just yet but watches me play with them, which seems to amuse him.

Cale's Uncle David and DJ invited us to the Children's Museum. It was so cool. There were tons of things for kids to do and play with. Cale is still a little young to really get into much, but there was lots of colorful things for him to look at. The museum is a fantastic idea especially because it gets so hot here in the summer. It was like a huge playroom for kids. DJ had a really good time. There were kids everywhere playing and as David said, "The best part is that you don't have to clean up after" and I totally agree with that :0)
We got to hang out with family a lot this month! Here are some more fun pics of Cale's Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

This is Cale's Aunt Cathy, Cousin Junior and Aunt Veronica (taking the picture.) Junior is so active. He loves to dance and run around. I can't wait until Cale is big enough to play with him.

Proud Dads

DJ is so adorable, and if you look at his mom, you can see why:) Cale's Uncle Patrick, (Junior's dad) is sitting right behind them.OK, here are some sick pics :( The bottom one is called I just woke up from a really long nap and I have no Idea what is going on. He often opens his eye really wide to take it all in. I am so glad my baby is feeling better now.

Cale's Grandma and Grandpa Keehn bought him this really cool lamp. It came in real handy during this month. When Cale would get fussy and tired and nothing else would console him, we would turn the lamp on and he was mesmerized.

1st Hair Cut

See the little toupee looking thing on the top of Cale's head...I was more than ready for this to go. Most of the hair he had from birth had rubbed off but this was the remaining patch, and boy was it getting long. After convincing Brian it was time, Cale had his first hair cut.

Here are a few before shots so you can appreciate the need for a cut. By the way, Cale is destined to have a mohawk. All of the hair on the top of his head grows straight up.

The Bumbo makes a perfect hair cutting seat for Cale

This is the post hair cut picture. Doesn't he look so nice :)

October Birthdays

There are a lot of October birthdays in our family. Cale's cousin DJ had a Halloween themed 1st birthday. Cale wore his scrubs so he could be a doctor like his daddy.

This is Cale's big cousin Junior. He was a trooper in his giraffe outfit. He was being a good cousin trying to help Cale sit up straight for their picture.

We got all the cousins together for a picture...Adrian, DJ, Junior, and Cale. As you can see Cale and Junior ditched their costumes by this point. DJ was still sporting his.Cale's Auntie Andrea also has an October birthday. We got together at Uncle Sam's Pizza to celebrate. DJ was eating a carrot and wanted to share with Cale. What a sweet little boy.

The 3rd Month

Cale's 3rd month was full of firsts. He did more during the past month than many people ever get to do...hope you enjoy the pictures that captured these times.
The above picture is of Cale finding his toes for the first time (I'm sure this is one thing that most people get to do during their life). Brian and I were having dinner and Cale was content on sitting on my lap, which is not common during dinner time. After a few minutes past we realized how great he was doing. He was so happy because he found these cute little things that are actually connected to him and even better, he could reach them! It was an amazing feat.
Road Trip

Cale took his first road trip just this past week. We went to visit his Nana, Grandpa Sap, Uncle Randy and Aunt Julie. Cale did great in the car. We stopped every 3 hours to let him eat and stretch his legs. Our first destination was Hatch NM to watch Julie play a soccer game, and then on to Silver City. Cale is starting to appreciate toys. His duck kept him entertained for a lot of the trip.It was so great to be In the nice cool weather. Cale really enjoys being outside, but it is still too hot in Phx. Cale was not very interested in the horses but he really liked the dogs. They are always extra excited when there are people around to pet them. I think Cale sensed this because he would smile right back at them. Brian took Cale to see Silas (for those of you who don't know the story about this dog I apologize) and of coarse he was barking so Cale immediatly started crying. I think he is going to be a very compassionate person.
This is the morning we left and we all have very sleepy eyes. Can you believe how big he is!!
Cale had a great time at Uncle Randy's Football game. It was his first time out at night. He stared at the big stadium lights the whole game. He is not used to having to wear more than a onesie. Of coarse he took advantage of having something close to his mouth and sucked on his sweater all night. He loves to stand up. I have been putting him in front on the mirror in our room and he gets so excited to see himself. He does this little dance where he bends over and then shoots up. He almost jumps right off the ground. It is so fun to watch him. Hopefully we will get a video on here soon for you to see.

Cale's Nana and proud grandmother of 4 and soon to be 5 grandkids.
Brian had Cale sitting up like a big boy on this chair. It was so nice for Brian to have a few days of relaxing with Cale after finishing his grueling boards.
For Some reason my dad thought morning pictures were the best and Cale and I could not escape even though I was still in my PJ's.
Denver

Cale took his first ever airplane ride this month and It was quite the adventure. We went to Denver to see his Aunt Tona, Uncle Mark, Aunt Amy, and cousins Jadyn and Owen. I had read that most babies his age sleep during the flight because of the vibrations of the plane but I was still pretty anxious about how he was going to do. When we first got on the plane he was pretty hungry so I fed him. I thought he would fall asleep shortly after but he had other ideas. He was not very happy about not being ableto move around much. He finally stopped crying and fell asleep when the flight attendants started the beverage service. For some reason they parked the cart right next to me and my sleeping baby. The next thing I knew they were cracking open soda cans and I had a screaming baby for pretty much the rest of the flight. It's a good thing it wasn't a long one.

This is Tona, with her daughter Jadyn (and Nicolas in her tummy who was born a week after Cale and I left) Amy with her son Owen (she too is preggo and due with a boy in December) and Cale and I. We had such a fun time. I wish we all lived closer:(
Cale really liked Tona's pampasan baby swing. He took a few naps here.

It was fun seeing what Jadyn thought of Cale because she was about to have a little brother enter the family. She did really well with him. I think she liked his feet most of all because she kept wanting to kiss them. When Cale was taking his nap she would keep asking "Where's baby Cale?" It was really cute.
Amy bought Owen his Halloween costume while we were there and Jadyn already had hers. Tona still had Jadyn's pea in a pod from last year. Since the cousins won't be together for Halloween, we decided to dress them up and take pictures anyway. I thought for sure that Cale would not like it and cry, but he actually did very well posing for the picture. As you can see, Owen was not too excited to take the picture. He kept trying to escape.

Tona already had all of Jadyn's girl cloths and didn't want to buy any boy cloths incase she had a girl. I went downstairs to get a glass of water and she decided to put pink pants on Cale. When I came up she told me "I just want to see what my son will look if he has to wear pink." Well, she did have a boy and I'm not sure if he ever had to wear pink. Cale was a good model and I think he looks pretty good in pink.

This is one of my best friends from high school. She lives about 45 minutes away from Tona which is great because I get to see her whenever I am there. She has three beautiful daughters. Cale really needed a nap as you can see.

More Firsts and Fun Times

Cale had his 2 month check up this month. It was more like his 2 and 1/2 month check up because of when we could get into the doctor. He got his first shots which was not very fun. Brian was there to hold him while they gave him the shots. He is much better at things like this for the obvious reasons. Cale weighed 15.2 lbs and was 24.5 inches long. That puts him in the 93rd percentile for weight and 86th percentile for length. Pretty much he is a big healthy boy.

This picture is a product of Brian and Cale upstairs while mom is downstairs making dinner (I thought for sure Cale was quietly sleeping. Brian sent this picture to me in a surprise email that said Cale is already studying for the MCAT.
This is Cale's Grandpa Keehn. Can you see the resemblance??
Sorry for those of you who are totally grossed out but I had to share. There is definitely a story behind this one...Cale always poops at least 3 times before 11am. One Sunday morning we were getting ready to go to church and I was a little concerned because Cale had not pooped once all morning. We left for church a little before 10 and still no sign of a BM. We were at church for a while and It was time for Cale to eat. I took him into the nursery and began to feed him. About half way into the feeding he started to poop and pretty much continued to for the rest of the feeding. He often poops so much that it exits out the top of the diaper, and I was pretty sure this one was definitely going to. Well, he finished eating and not only did he poop out of his diaper and through his cloths but it was all over me too. I went back into the sanctuary and got Brian and we went straight home for a bath.
This is Cale's first time in the pool. He was not sure what to think of it. He just quietly hung out and looked around. I'm pretty sure he thought he was in the bath tub.

And the best for last...Cale started laughing!!! We had been trying to capture it on film for about a week when we finally got it. Brian was playing with him. Cale thought his daddy was so funny. It's pretty much the best sound ever!
