San Diego Trip

Cale and I spent a week in San Diego with David, Belen and Dj. Belen was in a conference most of the week so David and I took the kids to the beach, Sea world, and a park. Cale had a really great time with his cousin.
The Beach
He chased this bird about 200 meters down the beach.

Playing in the sand with DJ

Cale really liked the water. The first day we went to the beach he ran straight in, which was a little scary. David and I took turns taking him in because he did not want to get out.

Sea World
I was super surprised and impressed with how well Cale watched the shows. We went to three different ones and he did great at them all. We were in the soak zone during Shamu, but lucked out in not getting wet.

Watch out for polar bears.

We were watching the beluga whales. it is so cool to see them move under water. They are very graceful for being so big.

Looking at the fish

This shark could easily eat both Cale and I at the same time...yikes.

David bought some fish to feed the seals. As soon as they saw the white plate they knew what was coming and came right up to us. Cale and Dj were not too sure what the heck was going on.

Sea World has a little Sesame Street play area for the kids. The characters even come out to mingle with the people.

Pictures with Big Bird and Elmo, and
Grover and Abbie

Cale saw Big Bird and went running after him. I am pretty sure he is his favorite Sesame Street character. Elmo is a close second.

They had fun at the splash pad. It was really pretty hot the whole time we were there so it was nice to cool off in the water.

DJ could of spent the whole day here. He absolutely loves the splash pad.

Cale has become a very adventurous little guy. When he saw these tunnels, he was all over them. Big, small, it did not matter. If he could climb inside it, he did.

This one was pretty long and was suspended in the air so it moved while he was inside of it. He thought it was so fun. I think this is the point when I said he definitely gets this from his daddy. Roller coasters here they come. Mommy will be waiting for you at the bottom with ice cream in hand.

This was one of those fun warped mirrors. Cale thought it was pretty cool. This was an area for the little ones to play in. The ground was soft and their were lots of colored soft blocks for them to play with. Cale and DJ spent a lot of time in this area.

Cale wanted to put Uncle David's hat on. He did very well walking around with it on, even when it fell down over his eyes. I bet you can guess what happened next.

The Park

One day we went to Balboa Park to let the kids play. It was a pretty warm day. I was really happy with how Cale kept his hat on almost the entire time. He usually rips it right off, but it seems to be growing on him.We got the soccer ball out a kicked around for a little bit.

Cale's favorite park item is by far the swing. He gets on and says weeeeeeee!

I decided to do a little 12month photo shoot of Cale. It was short lived because it happened just before nap time. Here are some of his best shots.

His hair always seems to come out looking a little bit on the red side. I don't think it looks that way in "real life" Maybe it is just the camera???

This one is definitely my favorite. (below)

About a month later we finally got around to getting some family photos. They are not professional by any means, but we think they turned out pretty good.

Cale and I are going to San Diego next week...stay turned for the photos from our trip.

Happy 1st Birthday

Cale turned one on the fourth of July. We had a small party with mostly family in attendance. We celebrated at our new house. Luckily it wasn't too hot. It has been above 110 degrees since so we are happy we didn't have to deal with that variable. We did purchase misters and had lots of water toys to stay cool.
The family picture with all of us in matching festive shirts. A little corny I know. Brian always wants to be color coordinated and finally we were able to do so without me feeling silly.

Cale hanging out before all the fun began. I am in the background running around like a crazy person trying to get everything ready in time. He of coarse has no idea anything is going on.
Cathy (Brian's sister) had this AWESOME water slide that she brought for us to use. It was the hit of the party. all the kids had a great time on it.

I also bought this $5 sprinkler. The younger kids really enjoyed this too.

This is Cathy's son "Duce". He was apparently thirsty and took it upon himself to get his own refreshment.

Of coarse Brain and I couldn't resist the slide either. We were a little big for it, but it was fun nonetheless. I bottomed out a couple of times going down.

Birthday CakeI decided to make Cale's cake. At first I had ambitions of making it from scratch but that didn't last long. I did however make the frosting with a recipe my friend Lisa gave me. I was pretty proud of how the decorating came out and It didn't taste too bad either.

We didn't practice blowing out candles before hand, so I ended up having to blow them out for him. He will be good to go for next year though.

Cale hadn't had a nap yet and was getting very tired, but he was a trooper and lasted the whole party. Poor kid couldn't even enjoy his first taste of cake because he was so tired. he did a great job of getting it in his hair. YUMMMMM...cake + sunscreen = two rounds of shampoo.

Gifts

Cale got so many nice gifts. It was so exciting! I felt like it was my birthday!

He got this cool rocking horse from his grandma and grandpa Keehn. The thing is pretty amazing...it sings, talks, makes galloping sounds when it moves, even its tail moves.

The Day After

My parents came into town for the party too. It was so great to have them here. My mom helped sooooo much with getting things ready for the party. Thanks Nana. the morning after the party Cale's G-pa had him outside and before we knew it, He was going round 2 on the slide... ...This time in his real birthday suit.

We let him slide down all by himself. When he got down to the bottom he would sign, "more more more." He loved it!
